This is my L1 Incomplete Spinal Cord Injury story…
Relearning to walk after my spinal cord injury was one hell of a ride. Pain and suffering, I believe, amounts to spiritual currency. Whatever spirituality means to you, is yours to have, but I believe it should resemble purpose. A life’s purpose. I believe without the contrast of pain, it would be impossible to fully understand the joy of happiness. To understand that the most basic human instinct is to love and to be loved. No matter what face we put on during the day for work, our obligations, our responsibilities, at the end of the day we all share the same sentiment for life. We all want to be loved, to be a part of a family, and to be accepted. If there was a walnut to be cracked out of this experience, for me, this was it. This encapsulates the concept of what I think about when the memory of relearning how to walk surfaces. A wild ride. Long nights. Unexpected outcomes and unpredictable events. Enduring the side effects of injury is trying. A mixture of feeling confident and feeling torn. Small victories and big defeats. Day by day, understanding that it doesn’t matter how fast you can get anything done, because physical rehabilitation doesn’t work like that. It comes with small tokens of daily effort. Patience and resilience, hope and forward movement. These are the words that define recovery. If you’re out there doing physical therapy right now, we’ve got this. Even when we feel defeated, nothing can overcome the victory of small steps and daily effort. Let’s get ourselves back to good health. ? Thanks for all the support from everyone friending me on social media, commenting, and spreading good vibes and good energy. One love.
